Strategic Approach

Our strategy focuses on empowerment of local population and representative civil society organisations, reducing gender, ethnic and generational inequities, strengthening their capabilities and ability in critical analysis of their reality and the implementation of responses to meet their basic rights, along with the internal organisational development of the programme. We have defined key crosscutting themes for our programme as gender, ethnic and generational equity.

ActionAid Guatemala has a Country Strategic Plan extended from 2001 to 2004. It summarizes Action Aid’s experience in Guatemala since 1997 and the opportunities for poverty-eradication actions which can be taken advantage of by civil society and which ActionAid Guatemala can support. It then outlines the strategic orientation for the programme that will form the basis of subsequent action plans and relations of the ActionAid Guatemala team. With this strategic approach we will be able to consolidate efforts, make the best use of resources and opportunities and improve the quality of our work in order to make a more effective contribution to the fight against the root causes of poverty and injustice within Guatemala. This strategic plan serves as a guideline for the programme's annual operational plans and thus does not go into detail as to specific actions to follow.

Specific sectors which ActionAid Guatemala promote are: Youth and Children, Peasants, Indigenous People and Women.
